🚚 Shipping & Delivery Policy: Ensuring Safe and Stress-Free Transport
At Joe Exotic Primates, the health, safety, and welfare of our animals are our absolute top priority during the transfer process. Due to the sensitive and specialized nature of transporting primates and exotic animals, we adhere to strict national and international guidelines.
1. The Pre-Shipping Process
We take extensive measures to ensure your animal is ready for travel:
- Veterinary Clearance: Every animal must receive a final health certificate and clearance from our exotic veterinarian within 10 days of the scheduled travel date. This ensures the animal is fit for transport.
- Permitting Verification: We require all necessary local and state permits (from the recipient) to be verified and on file before transport is booked.
- Crate Preparation: All animals are transported in airline-approved, IATA-compliant crates that are appropriately sized, secured, and equipped with fresh water and food for the duration of the journey.
- Behavioral Assessment: Animals are monitored for stress indicators leading up to the trip. If an animal is showing signs of illness or excessive stress, the shipment will be immediately rescheduled until they are fit to travel.
2. Shipping Methods and Logistics
We utilize specialized, climate-controlled shipping methods to minimize travel time and stress.
A. Air Cargo (Recommended for Primates and Exotics)
This is the standard, safest, and fastest method for transporting live exotic animals:
- Service: We partner with specialized live animal shipping departments of major commercial airlines.
- Climate Control: Animals travel in pressurized, temperature-controlled, and well-lit cargo areas designed for live cargo.
- Routing: We prioritize direct flights whenever possible to reduce layover times and handling.
- Pickup: The recipient is required to pick up the animal promptly at the designated airline cargo facility at the destination airport. Photo ID is strictly required for pickup.
B. Ground Transport (Regional or Specific Needs)
For shorter distances or specific species (like Bunnies), we may arrange specialized, insured ground courier services.
- Vehicle: Use of climate-controlled, non-smoking vehicles approved for live animal transport.
- Delivery: This service may include direct, door-to-door delivery, depending on the distance and service provider.
3. Shipping Costs and Insurance
Shipping costs are complex and vary based on several factors:
- Variables: The size and weight of the animal/crate, the destination airport (and specific fees), the route (direct vs. connecting), and seasonal weather restrictions all influence the final price.
- Cost Estimate: A final, non-refundable shipping quote will be provided after the animal is selected and the destination is confirmed. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
- Insurance: All shipments are insured against loss or injury during transport. Details of the insurance coverage will be provided in your final sales contract.
4. Destination and Delivery Requirements
- Airport Availability: You must confirm that your local airport has a dedicated cargo facility that handles live animal shipments.
- Recipient Availability: The recipient must be available to receive and pick up the animal immediately upon arrival at the cargo facility. Failure to pick up the animal promptly may result in substantial fees or the animal being returned to us at the buyer’s expense.
- Weather Restrictions: Airlines impose mandatory temperature restrictions for live animal safety (typically between $45^\circ\text{F}$ and $85^\circ\text{F}$ at both the departure and arrival locations). If the weather forecast falls outside this safe range, the shipment will be rescheduled immediately.
5. Post-Delivery Instructions
Upon receiving your new companion:
- Immediate Inspection: Carefully inspect the crate and the animal upon arrival at the cargo facility before leaving the premises.
- Contact Us: In the unlikely event of any visible distress, damage, or discrepancy, you must contact Joe Exotic Primates immediately (+1 501 256 0334) before leaving the airport.
- Home Acclimation: Follow the specialized acclimation instructions provided in your care packet to ensure a smooth transition into their new environment.
We are committed to making this final step in your adoption process as safe and stress-free as possible.
